Junior Full Stack Engineer
AtkinsRéalis · Bristol, England, United Kingdom
Job Description Overview At AtkinsRéalis Nuclear, we’re using digital technology to help solve complex engineering challenges and create safer, more efficient and better-connected ways of working. We’re looking for a Junior Full Stack Engineer to join our multidisciplinary digital team, developing secure, user-focused software for engineering and operational environments. You’ll contribute across front-end, back-end and cloud technologies, working alongside experienced colleagues who will support you as your skills and confidence grow. Our digital teams create products and services that connect people, data and physical assets. This includes web platforms, cloud services and data-driven applications used across complex engineering environments. You’ll contribute to both live products and new ideas, helping turn user needs into reliable and maintainable software. You’ll have opportunities to learn from others, share your ideas and gradually take greater ownership as you develop. We value curiosity, collaboration and a willingness to learn as much as technical knowledge. You don’t need to know every technology we use from day one. We’re looking for someone with good software development foundations who is excited to keep learning and growing with us. Your role As a Junior Full Stack Engineer, you’ll work collaboratively with product managers, designers, engineers and subject-matter experts to understand challenges and turn ideas into practical digital solutions. You’ll: Develop and improve web applications, contributing to user-facing features using technologies such as JavaScript and Vue.js. Build and support back-end services and APIs, working with technologies including JavaScript, Python and .NET. Contribute to cloud-based solutions, developing your experience with platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud or Amazon Web Services. Work closely with colleagues and users to understand their needs, explore possible solutions and translate requirements into working software. Create clear, maintainable and testable code, learning and applying good engineering standards and modern development practices. Help improve our applications by investigating issues, resolving defects and contributing ideas that enhance performance, reliability, security and user experience. Collaborate and share your thinking, taking part in code reviews, technical discussions, demonstrations and team planning while communicating progress, challenges and what you’ve learned. You’ll have support from experienced colleagues while being encouraged to take increasing ownership of your work. Sometimes you’ll work from clear requirements, while at other times you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, explore a problem and work with others to find the right approach. About you We’re interested in your strengths, potential and approach to learning, rather than expecting you to have experience with every technology our teams use. You may enjoy this opportunity if you: Have developed a foundation in software engineering or computer science through a degree, relevant training, professional experience or another learning pathway. Have practical experience with JavaScript and Python, and some exposure to developing web applications, back-end services or APIs. Have experience with, or an interest in developing your knowledge of, technologies such as Vue.js, .NET and cloud platforms. Enjoy solving problems and learning from others, and are comfortable asking questions or seeking support when you need it. Have an understanding of areas such as APIs, web application architecture, source control and modern software development practices. Enjoy working collaboratively and can communicate your ideas, progress and challenges clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues. We’d also welcome experience or an interest in areas such as TypeScript, Node.js, databases, automated testing, CI/CD, containers, infrastructure as code, cloud monitoring or secure software development. These are helpful, but we don’t expect you to bring all of them. Experience in engineering, infrastructure, nuclear, high-hazard or other safety-critical environments can be useful, but it isn’t essential. We’re equally interested in what you’ve learned through personal, academic or professional software projects and the contribution you made. Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who is curious, collaborative and motivated to develop, with the foundations to grow as a software engineer and contribute to technology that makes a meaningful difference.
